Alchemist Cinematic Bundle is the latest release of String Audio. It features two libraries, Textures and Impacts that covers a wide range of cinematic samples dedicated to musical sound design.  This library features control over 6 individual layers of sound as well as their custom “color engine” which gives you the option to layer 6 different IR’s from a pool of 65 different convolutions. On promo pricing for $119, the Cinematic Bundle retails for $149 and you can learn more at String Audio.

Pros and Cons

The market is flooded with sound design tools, all of which are trying to be “game changers.” However, the Alchemist series is the opposite. It takes familiar and simple and gives you a pool of great sounding sources to manipulate and inspire your work.  Wrapped up into an easy to use interface, the Alchemist series certainly raises the bar from their freshman release of Dark Matter. Familiar in design, the Alchemist series offers more control and a more streamlined workflow that will get you working quickly.

I had some visual troubles at first when trying to read the small font as well as controls like the pan and tuning knobs have a small area to click in order to control. These issues were addressed immediately by the developer and they are working on ways to streamline those aspects. Every control worked flawlessly and as intended which made working with this library very smooth.

I look forward to future updates to see where they take this series. The small pool of material makes it vulnerable to having content updates that add to the longevity of this library. The Alchemist Cinematic Bundle features a simple, yet powerfully immersive sound design engine. Not only is this library a bargain for hobbyists, it is a workhorse for the pros.
